Confirmation and First Communion at Saint Maur International School
Our school was founded by the Sisters of Infant Jesus to provide educational opportunities to international families in Japan. Thus, for 150 years we have celebrated with our families the important milestones of life and encouraged and guided students to become moral citizens.
Our Chapel is a wonderful space where Christian life events such as as baptisms, first communions, weddings and even wakes have been taken place to celebrate and commemorate life.
This week, two special Masses took place at the Saint Maur Chapel. Two Grade 7 students received their Confirmation on Sunday where they accepted the gifts of the Holy Spirit and said "I do" to going forth into the world as people who love God and will serve their neighbors. Confirmation was presided by Bishop Raphael Umemura Masahiro, the Bishop of the Diocese of Yokohama. This Mass was a wonderful community event where each person shared their gifts to celebrate faith, community and support our young people. The gathered enthusiastically said "yes" to photographing the event, to reading the Word, to singing or playing instruments or to preparing the students to understand the significance of this commitment to follow Jesus' commandments.
The following day, eight students in Elementary School participated in their First Communion. This is the first time that a young person receives the consecrated body and blood of Christ. It also encourages children to be more familiar with the order of Mass and the prayers that have united beliefs for two millennia. Candles were lit to commemorate the light that shines within them and they were encouraged to use that light to be moral citizens.
Our students have prepared for this events over a number of months and we give thanks to all the teachers, friends and families who have shared this journey with these children.
