Religious Studies offers students the opportunity to learn more about their own faith as well as the beliefs of others while develop and grow spiritually, emotionally and ethically.
Saint Maur was established by the Sisters of Infant Jesus with the mission to accept children of all nationalities, languages, and religions thus interpreting "catholic" in its original meaning of "universal." Today we continue Mère Mathilde's vision.
As a Christian school founded by Catholic nuns, we educate students on Christian values and use the Bible as well as the rich history of Christian philosophy, encyclicals, and theological writings to promote holistic education with heart.
In addition, World Religions are also taught, celebrated and discussed in the hope of encouraging children to consider their spiritual journey and develop their moral character as global citizens. Thus, each student's perspective, culture and faith journey enriches the classroom dynamics.
As well as providing students opportunities in the classroom to discuss ethical and moral dilemmas facing our inter-connected world, the Religious Studies department organizes a Day of Reflection for each Secondary cohort. These days are opportunities for students to reflect on the Saint Maur Essential Outcomes through hands-on experiences, kinesthetic learning and spiritual self-reflecting activities.
