Grade 7 Students Reflect on School Motto "Simple in Virtue, Steadfast in Duty"
Simple in Virtue, Steadfast in Duty. The motto that the Sisters of the Infant Jesus chose for our school continues to be a guiding principle in how we approach education and what we value to instill in our students.
It was an important theme for our Grade 7s to ponder upon during their Day of Reflection. Grade 7s spent a great day thinking about their gifts and how they can share them with one another. Students considered that being proud of their achievements is great but being boastful is not. Refining and using our gifts for one another and sharing them with our community is a good thing. This was illustrated by making and then baking a loaf of bread. Each part of making bread; the flour, water, salt, yeast and the utensils are important.
Similarly each of our student's talents, gifts and contributions are important and make a whole. In the afternoon, students put their gratitude and humble gifts into action by writing thank you cards to all the workers at Saint Maur who are not teachers.
They are also an integral part of Saint Maur with a dignified job. Our staff was so pleased to receive cards from our students! Our simple cards are an important part of living out our humble yet important gifts as Moral Citizens.
