Students in Grades 2 and 7 Share the Joy of Reading
Our school has a program called Reading Buddies, which takes place every two weeks. Seventh graders like me visit the second graders’ classroom to spend time with them.
During this time, we talk to get to know each other, read books together, and sometimes do creative activities related to the book. For example, after reading The Smart Cookie, we made our own cookies using colored paper and pens. We created our own cookies to show that being “smart” isn’t just about academics, it’s about celebrating our unique talents and strengths. Overall, It’s a fun way to connect with the younger students exploring stories and creativity.
As seventh graders, we benefit a lot from Reading Buddies. It helps us improve our leadership and communication skills as we guide the second graders through reading and activities. It also allows us to feel responsible and confident because we’re setting a good example for them.
Furthermore, it’s a chance to take a break from our own studies and appreciate the simple joy of storytelling and bonding with younger students. I’m always excited for Reading Buddies because it’s such a fun program. It’s not just about reading books, it’s about building connections, learning from each other, and having fun.
