Another shout out to the Saint Maur parent community, who have organized, baked and helped out at the French Bake Sale last week to raise funds for Tiphaine Veron, a French citizen, who went missing in Nikko last year.

On Friday, 31st January the Elementary had an amazing Fun Day that was Science themed. The day started with children going straight into their first experiment of the day. The experiments were all age appropriate and each teacher was in charge of one experiment for the day.
On Friday January 31st, 24 students from Yokohama Science Frontier High School (YSFHS) joined the combined Grade 7 classes from Saint Maur in a collaborative activity to build a catapult.
Six students from Yokohama Science Frontier High School (YSFH) visited Saint Maur between November 14th – 16th as part of the annual exchange programme. The students followed their Grade 10 and 11 hosts and as well as taking a keen interest in how Science is taught at Saint Maur, participated in the full range of regular classes and activities. The event provided students with the opportunity to find out about the differences between the Japanese education system and life at an International School. Many of the students were surprised by the differences between them.
The weekend of November 29th and 30th was a truly memorable one for the Saint Maur community. The Fine Arts Department presented its production of "Beauty and the Beast" at three performances to over 600 audience members.
Last May, the Irish Dance Club received an invitation from the Director of the National Catholic Awareness Conference, Japan to perform at the Nicholas Barre Center in Yotsuya, Tokyo during the event, “In Preparation for Pope Francis’s Visit to Japan, Catholic Awareness Conference of Japan – 2019”.
We are pleased to report that a number of of small Alumni reunions took place in the United States. As always, it was a pleasure to meet with former students and maintain the ties that our time at Saint Maur created.
The IGCSE Music students were treated to a workshop and performance from a visiting Celtic harp player from France.
Yuki Kawamura graduated from Saint Maur in 2017 and currently attends Yale as a Yanai Scholar and Masayoshi Son Scholar. At Yale, he is researching mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease and hopes to establish preventive treatment for diseases such as stroke and heart failure. He often shares his fond memories of the education and of the supportive teachers and friends at Saint Maur.
A group of Saint Maur's finest musicians were lucky enough to take part in a joint event with Futaba School yesterday. They were invited to a music master class with the internationally renowned Quattor Debussy string quartet from Lyon, France.
I would like to thank you all for the welcome you have extended to me. Since I am new to both Saint Maur and Japan, I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to tell you a little about myself. As some of you already know, I am from Northern Ireland in the U.K. As a child my family moved to Kuwait where I was educated. I received my tertiary education at the Ulster University and University of Sunderland and then moved back to Kuwait to begin my teaching career. I spent the last 10 years in Kuwait working as a teacher, middle leader and Senior leader at a Primary School.
