About the class:
The Japanese tea ceremony is a harmonious blend of social interaction, mindfulness, and appreciation for beauty. Each element of the ceremony, from the design of the tea room to the utensils used, carries symbolic meaning and represents an intricate balance of aesthetic ideals.
In this course, you will learn the following key elements of Japanese Tea Ceremony:
Preparation: The tea room is designed to create a serene and intimate atmosphere. The host meticulously prepares the tea utensils, including the tea bowl, whisk, and scoop.
Presentation: Guests are invited to the tea room and engage in a series of carefully choreographed movements that reflect respect for the art and each other.
Drinking Tea: The matcha is whisked with precise motions, producing a frothy, vibrant green liquid. Guests receive the tea bowl, bow to show gratitude, and savor the tea.
Appreciation: The utensils, sweets, flowers and decorations are all aspects to be appreciated during the ceremony.
About the instructor:
青井宗良 教授 Aoi, Soryo (full-Instructor) entered the Urasenke School of Tea 1969. She is a member of the Urasenke International Association and also teaches at the Urasenke School in Tokyo. She has decades of teaching experience in Japan, and abroad.
