High School SMEO Awards Assembly: Celebrating Excellence and Community Spirit
On Tuesday, November 19th, students from Saint Maur International School's High School gathered in the auditorium for a special lunchtime assembly, hosted by the High School Student Council Executive Committee. This event celebrated the achievements of students across various disciplines while highlighting the values that underpin our educational mission.
The assembly commenced with an address from Mr. Doherty, High School Coordinator and Head of Music, introducing the main focus of the assembly; the Saint Maur Essential Outcomes (SMEO) awards. These awards honour students who exemplify our five core outcomes: becoming Moral Citizens, Unique Individuals, Global Citizens, Balanced Learners, and Lifelong Learners. Recipients demonstrated qualities such as critical thinking, cultural awareness, global responsibility, and effective communication. These awards were then presented by each of the homeroom teachers, who spoke about each student in detail and the reason for each one to have been chosen.
Congratulations to the five students who received this year's High School SMEO award.
These students have consistently modelled the spirit and values of Saint Maur, inspiring their peers through their conduct, commitment to learning, involvement with the student council, and positive interactions within the school community.
Following the SMEO awards, Mr. Boyd (IGCSE Coordinator) and Mr. Jones (Secondary School Principal) presented the official IGCSE certificates to Grade 11 students. These certificates are a recognition of their hard work and dedication during their end-of-Grade 10 exams. Mr. Doherty also presented certificates for the Trinity Music Examinations, celebrating the musical achievements of students who have excelled in their chosen instruments and vocals.
Our Fine Arts Coordinator and Head of Drama, Mr. Gregoriades, then took the stage to announce the results of the recent KPASS Speech Contest. Saint Maur students shone brightly, winning 10 Golds, 6 Silvers and 2 All-Stars awards across multiple categories, with Saint Maur also bringing home the overall winners trophy for the third time in four years! Their accomplishments underscore the depth of talent and dedication within our Fine Arts program.
The assembly concluded with announcements from student leaders about three upcoming initiatives: the Christmas Toy Drive, Happy Bags for people in need, and the KPSC Christmas Gram. These projects exemplify the spirit of giving and community engagement that are so important in the run-up to the holiday season at Saint Maur.
The assembly was a meaningful reminder of the diverse talents, achievements, and character within our student body. It also reinforced our commitment to fostering a well-rounded education that nurtures both academic excellence and personal growth. Congratulations to all the award recipients and participants, and thank you to the staff and students who made this event a success!
