November 5th, 2022 marked a special occasion as Saint Maur staff, alumni, parents and members of the international community in Yokohama came together to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Saint Maur International School. The event was held at the ballroom of the splendid Kahala Hotel & Resort with our alumnus and renowned TV personality, Thane Camus, guiding us through the evening.
It was a weekend of excitement and competition as three teams from the Saint Maur Robotics Club traveled to the American School in Japan (ASIJ) to compete in the VEX Robotics Competition on Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14. The three teams were made up of students from grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, who had been working hard in preparation for the event.
Earlier this month, the grade 7 classes and homeroom teachers enjoyed a three day excursion to Miyagi prefecture. The goals of the trip were to experience the culture of Japan, to build friendships, and to have fun. Happily, the trip was a success on all three fronts.
On September 30th, the Montessori children engaged in a creative project for their first Fun Day for the school year. From our youngest 2½ year olds to our six year olds, all the children were a part of a group mural that was painted up on our roof playground.
This year on April 29th, instead of our traditional Food Fair, we hosted a special 150th Anniversary Celebration Day for our students!
Saint Maur ended the semester with a festive extravaganza, starting with the incredible Secondary Winter Concert and stunning Art exhibition on Thursday evening.
With the holiday season upon us, the Saint Maur Parent Support Group (PSG) and Charity Committee hosted Saint Maur's first Christmas Wonderland. The idea behind this festive event was to get the whole community together to spend a joyful day on campus with games for students, live music, Christmas themed food and drink, an exciting raffle and a movie night for students.
On Friday, December 3rd, the Saint Maur Montessori and Elementary School students performed a wonderful Christmas concert to a live audience of parents in our auditorium. This has been the first live Christmas concert in two years and while we still had to limit audience numbers, it was a vibrant and festive atmosphere accompanied by a bake sale organised by our Parent Support Group.
From October 27th to 29, Saint Maur 8th graders went to the Nanbo Kokusai Mura Camp and had an experience of camping with their classmates. The 8th graders did lots of fun activities outdoors and enjoyed delicious food!
This week we celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, in our classroom. Diwali is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in India. During this time we decorate our homes with lights, candles, and colorful rangoli designs to invite Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, prosperity, and good fortune.
We are proud to announce that our high school brain bowl team this year became the CHAMPIONS out of 8 teams in the KPASS league, with a grand total of 585 points!
This month, our middle school students are joining with aspiring novelists around the world by participating in National Novel Writing Month. During National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short, in an event in which writers commit to writing every day with the goal of completing a draft of a novel by the end of the month. Our students are participating in NaNoWriMo during English class while improving their writing skills.
