It is with deep regret and sadness that we must inform you of the unexpected and untimely death of Richard Rucci on January 15. He joined our staff in 1992 and retired in 2020. We shall always be indebted to him for the contribution he made to the school in his many roles, and to the numerous students he helped during his long career as an educator in the U.S., Korea and Japan.
Two of the Grade 10 students at Saint Maur International School have initiated a charity project in December 2020 and collected donations of cash and sanitary products for women who are homeless or receive a low income and therefore lack access to feminine hygiene products.
The Grade 8 Japanese B class students completed a special project, expressing their appreciation to the cleaning staff at Saint Maur International School.
The High School Drama Club had a very successful run of their adaptation of Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express" from Wed November 11 to Sat November 14. Two different casts alternated performances to a limited audience of 29 per show.
It was an interesting start to the season for the Middle School Volleyball Girls' team. With COVID protocols in place the girls were not sure if they would have any matches.
Congratulations to Saint Maur alumna Madoka Nishina (Class of 2016), who has successfully completed her Bachelor's degree in Economics from Keio University, graduating with a Summa Cum Laude distinction, awarded to the highest achieving college graduates each year.
In keeping with our school's philosophy of integrated approach to teaching through all grade levels, the Science Department recently welcomed the two Grade 1 classes for a special introdction to the Origin if Life on Earth.
Our IB Biology teacher and Saint Maur alumna, Anna Novick, was interviewed by the Tokyo Alumni Podcast and takes us on that journey of what it was like for her growing up as a third culture kid in the small town of Hayama in Japan, where she attended local Japanese school from kindergarten through 9th grade as the only redhead among 500 kids.
This month, our middle school students are joining with aspiring novelists around the world by participating in National Novel Writing Month. During National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short, in an event in which writers commit to writing every day with the goal of completing a draft of a novel by the end of the month. Our students are participating in NaNoWriMo during English class while improving their writing skills.
As every year, the students of the French Section represented the school during the Commemoration of the end of the First World War at the Yokohama Foreigners' Cemetery.
On Wednesday 4 November and Friday 6 November, the high school Junior Varsity, middle school and high school Varsity teams travelled to Ajinomoto Stadium and Niiza Sports Complex for the final races of the season.
