On May 11th, the Combined 7th & 8th Grade Band performed at the KPASS Middle School Band Festival, which was held for the first time since 2019. This was the first time for these students to perform at this event, held at Yokosuka Naval Base and featuring performances by schools from the Tokyo and Yokohama area. “It was nice to listen to the band music that students in other schools prepared for the KPASS Band Festival,” said one grade 8 student.
The Cougar Café was buzzing with excited voices on Friday 12th May. This was the highlight of the scientific Middle School year with Grades 6 and 7 making their Science Fair project presentations to Secondary School students, teachers, parents, families and friends.
On May 3rd and 4th, seventeen students from the Middle School competed in the Tokyo Round of the World Scholar’s Cup. The World Scholar’s Cup consists of four events: Team Debate, Scholar’s Challenge, Collaborative Writing, and the Scholar’s Bowl.
Saint Maur's Model United Nations (MUN) Club took part in their first conference this year. On the 25th and 26th of March, the students attended JMMUN (Japan Metropolitan Model United Nations), a conference hosted by Senzoku Gakuen. They had the task of representing DR Congo and Singapore in the OHCHR (Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights) where they discussed how to solve the issue of modern slavery with students from all over Japan.
Over the last few months the Grade 6 and 7 students have been hard at work on their Science Fair projects. Working in groups they come up with a research question and design an experimental protocol. They spend many hours in the laboratory, trouble-shooting problems that arise and collecting data. After the practical phase they analyze their data and use it to answer their research question.
Our school was founded by the Sisters of Infant Jesus to provide educational opportunities to international families in Japan. Thus, for 150 years we have celebrated with our families the important milestones of life and encouraged and guided students to become moral citizens.

Saint Maur’s Middle School Student Council students had the opportunity to visit Yokohama's Futaba School for a day. They discussed the differences and similarities between their schools Futaba and Saint Maur; had a great experience, and a lot of fun. The seven participating students hope this can be an annual event!
One of the top prizes at the recent PSG Bingo event for Elementary and Montessori students was a visit to the Chemistry Lab. The two lucky winners each brought a friend to participate in a variety of exciting experiments and demonstrations.
These past weeks have been inspiring for our ambitious music students at Saint Maur International School.
During the Grade 11 Day of Reflection, we focused on being Moral Citizens and how to do it by showing affection and love in our very important platonic relationships. Students were asked to consider that long-lasting love comes in many form and for many, their 'soulmates' may be our friends who know us, love us and walk their journey with us.
On 23 March, the British Universities in Japan Education Fair was held at Saint Maur, bringing together representatives from 19 higher education institutions in the UK and high school students, parents, and staff members. The fair was an opportunity for attendees to learn about the various educational programs, facilities, and admission requirements offered by universities in the UK.
On Friday 3rd of March, our Grade 6s gathered for their first Day of Reflection. We have these events once a year for each cohort but the first one for Grade 6s is special in that it is an opportunity for them to reflect on how far they have come since their first nervous day as Middle Schoolers.
