A very challenging component of the IB Chemistry course is the IB Chemistry Investigation (IA). Students research the literature, propose a unique research question, design an experimental protocol, and carry out the practical phase (approximately 10 hours) to collect data.
Our Days of Reflection offer students the chance to step back from their regular routines and come together as a cohort to engage with one of the Saint Maur Essential Outcomes (SMEOs) through meaningful conversations, games, hands-on challenges, and group bonding. This year, the focus for Grade 10 was on what it means to be balanced learners.
Last Friday, our Grade 6 and 7 students transformed the Cougar Café into a vibrant hub of scientific discovery at this year’s Middle School Science Fair where they proudly presented their projects to an audience of teachers, parents, peers, and guests from Yokohama Science Frontier High School.
On Friday April 25, Catherine Hubert Girod, a former student of Saint Maur, paid the school a visit in order to speak to several groups of students across secondary school about her experiences working for several different international organizations such as the Red Cross and the United Nations.
On Saturday, April 28, the Saint Maur High School MUN club held its final event at Aoba Japan International School in Tokyo. This marked the culmination of their participation in five conferences since September. During these conferences, the club engaged in discussions on various global issues, including social and economic growth, human rights, security, conflict, and migration. Ting Wen (Grade 11), who participated in his first conference as a delegate this week, shared his reflections on the experiences he gained.
Love is the purpose and point of our existence. It guides us, gives us hope, and shapes our sense of self-worth. During the Grade 11 Day of Reflection at Saint Maur, students explored this essential human need—the need for meaningful connections and love found in platonic friendship.
Two Grade 12 students attended the annual Forum of International Research in Science and Technology (YSF-FIRST 2025) on Saturday 25th March hosted by Yokohama Science Frontier High School.
On March 5, 2025, twenty nine students from Middle School and High School attended the annual KPASS Math Field Day competition at The National Olympics Memorial Youth Center near Yoyogi Park in Tokyo.
On Friday, February 21, Saint Maur’s Middle School students gathered for the Honor Roll Assembly. The event was opened by two Middle School Student Council members, followed by an address from Mr. So, the Middle School Coordinator, who introduced the assembly’s main purpose: to recognize and celebrate students who achieved Honor Roll and Honor Roll with Distinction.
The Saint Maur community has once again demonstrated its dedication to compassion and service through its enthusiastic support of the Happy Bags Project. This heartwarming initiative, aimed at bringing comfort and joy to individuals experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness, saw the distribution of about 400 bags during the Christmas and New Year period.
The Grade 6 Day of Reflection marked a significant milestone in our students' journey of personal growth and leadership. This event, the first of many opportunities for our students to come together, was a meaningful day dedicated to exploring how they can embody the Saint Maur Essential Outcomes (SMEOs). Through cooperative games, reflective discussions, and motivational videos, students engaged with the theme of becoming "life-long learners" while fostering kindness and inclusivity.
