January saw the return of a familiar favorite: the Saint Maur Ski Trip. Students in Grades 5, 6, and 7, along with their homeroom teachers, traveled to Niigata for three days of winter fun. Although the Ski Trip is normally an excursion for the 5th and 6th grade, the 7th grade was included this year. For the past two years, the trip had been canceled due to the pandemic.
Our Pre-School Montessori students in Miss Almoula's and Miss Chito's class participated in a special Science experiment: using a thermometer to read the temperature.

November 5th, 2022 marked a special occasion as Saint Maur staff, alumni, parents and members of the international community in Yokohama came together to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Saint Maur International School. The event was held at the ballroom of the splendid Kahala Hotel & Resort with our alumnus and renowned TV personality, Thane Camus, guiding us through the evening.
Towards the end of January both Grade 4 classes visited the Chemistry lab to learn how to make crystals.
It was a weekend of excitement and competition as three teams from the Saint Maur Robotics Club traveled to the American School in Japan (ASIJ) to compete in the VEX Robotics Competition on Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14. The three teams were made up of students from grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, who had been working hard in preparation for the event.
Last Friday, the Grade 7s gathered with Ms Mansson and their Homeroom teachers to participate in their Day of Reflection. The day was focused on our School Motto: Simple in Virtue, Steadfast in Duty.
On Sunday, November 13th, the Parent Support Group hosted a grand fundraiser, Christmas Wonderland. In addition to being a wonderful start to the holiday season, this event is a celebration of our international community who came together to partake in the festivities. With a variety of cuisines that represent our community, we had over 10 different booths selling delicious food and drinks. Our community members came out in full force and began cooking bright and early.
The Science Department hosted its yearly special lecture last Tuesday. Those lectures aim to introduce a world-renowned scientist to our International Baccalaureate natural scientists in order for them to hear about their research and activities, obtain inspiration from their careers, and forge connections with the professional world. Year after year, dedicated students seize those opportunities, which sometimes materialize into summer placements, special visits, and more.
Earlier this month, the grade 7 classes and homeroom teachers enjoyed a three day excursion to Miyagi prefecture. The goals of the trip were to experience the culture of Japan, to build friendships, and to have fun. Happily, the trip was a success on all three fronts.
On September 30th, the Montessori children engaged in a creative project for their first Fun Day for the school year. From our youngest 2½ year olds to our six year olds, all the children were a part of a group mural that was painted up on our roof playground.
Last week, students from the French Section visited the Chemistry lab Laboratory to see Sublimation in action as part of their study of States of Matter. Sublimation is when a solid turns directly into a gas without melting.
The 8 students who chose to take Summer School Kendo Class were so excited when they arrived for the first training session on Monday, June 13. Students in the new Grade 3 to Grade 7 with experience of enrolling in Elementary School Kendo Club participated in 2 hour training for a total of 10 days to improve their skills.
