About the class:
Chigiri-e is a Japanese art form in which the primary technique uses coloured paper that is torn to create images, and resembles a watercolor painting. A soft technique, involving the use of only fingers, a skewer and glue, no scissors and knives can be used while making Chigiri-e.
The paper is handmade and dyed, with a very delicate grammage.
The technique dates from the Heian period of Japanese history when it was often used in conjunction with calligraphy.
