On Friday, June 2nd, the Saint Maur Community celebrated the annual graduation mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral. This celebration marked the end of 144 years and the beginning of our 145th year as the oldest international school in Japan and the third oldest in the world, as well as being the only Catholic international school in the Diocese of Yokohama, and the only co-educational Catholic international school in the Kanto Plains region.
The Science Department is proud to announce the name of the Scientist of the Year for the academic year 2016 - 2017. This year's recipient is Ayumu Nishimura an extremely motivated and talented student who demonstrated through weeks of hard work that she had what it takes to make a successful researcher.
The middle school science investigations came to a close on Friday, May 12 at the Middle School Science Fair where fifteen groups in Grade 7 and nine groups in Grade 6 presented their scientific findings to the school community.
On Saturday May 6th, Saint Maur Middle School students entered the Yokota Robot Rumble with 32 different teams entered from across four different schools. Held at Yokota Air Base, the Robot Rumble is a combination of three events, which test programming, driver control and team-work.
Japan is well known for being one of the cleanest countries in the world. Japanese people seem to have a special pride in keeping the areas around their houses and most public places clean and tidy. However there is a big exception - if you visit a beach or mountain side where many people gather, you can often find lots of trash scattered around. This could be due to the lack of garbage bins in many public places or possibly because Japanese people think someone else will clean these places up for them. The result however is often an unsightly mess in some of Japan’s most beautiful places.
Five Saint Maur International School scientists attended the Yokohama Science Frontier Forum for International Research in Science and Technology, where they presented the findings collected during their Individual Investigations.
Following the Science Immersion Camp where Saint Maur students visited the Yokohama Science Frontier High School (YSFH) campus for three days, we invited several students from YSFH to experience what our school is like. The YSFH students shadowed the Saint Maur students for three days and participated in our classes, homerooms and also the College Fair.
The digital bus clock displayed bold red numbers - 5:45, the time, we, the members of the 2016 Brain Bowl team were told to arrive at school. The bus soon filled with bleary-eyed, drowsy students and we set off on the long trip to Yokota Air Base - the site of that day’s battle. The subdued bus rolled through the city and along the Tamagawa River while most its occupants slept. I attempted to study what I could, (which was not much) but eventually I too succumbed to the lull of sleep and dozed off in the silent bus.

The Saint Maur scientists were in for a treat this month as they received a new piece of equipment purchased for them thanks to the support of the Saint Maur International School Parent Support Group.
The 2016 edition of Saint Maur International School's Middle School Science Fair successfully took place on Friday, May 6th 2016 in the Science Center. After several weeks of planning, hard work, and writing, students from Grade 6 and Grade 7 presented their work to peers, teachers, and parents.
